The Friends are organized to foster a partnership between outdoor enthusiasts and Portage Lakes State Park that ensures a better place for nature and wildlife education, while setting high conservation standards and raising a strong sense of responsibility for future generations.

To preserve for future generations the truly unique natural attributes found in Portage Lakes State Park by promoting the preservation and protection of its resources and to encourage community and visitor participation in these efforts.

• To preserve and protect the natural beauty of Portage Lakes State Park.

• To establish cooperative relationships with individuals, private organizations and government agencies sharing the common goals of the organization.

• To promote and support educational efforts within the Park that will support these goals.

• Initiate fundraising events and solicit donations for specific projects approved by the Board of Directors and Portage Lakes State Park to advance the mission of the organization.

• To organize and implement work projects that will complement the infrastructure and mission of Portage Lakes State Park.
